    Blog or slide? Using Appropriate Media to Enhance the Students’ Ability in Writing an English Research Proposal based on Their Reasoning Level

    This experimental research is aiming at finding out which media is more appropriate to enhance the students’ ability in writing an English-language qualitative research proposal, Blog or Slide? This is also to find out whether students’ reasoning level influences their writing ability and whether there is any interaction between teaching media and reasoning level. This experimental research was conducted on the students of English Language Education of IAIN Surakarta based on the pre-test post-test control group design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students and control group consisted of 29 students. Two-stage sampling technique, purposive sampling and then cluster sampling, was used to choose the subjects. To analyze the data, the researcher used Two-Way ANOVA technique. The research results show that using Blog media is more effective to enhance the students’ ability in writing an English research proposal compared to using Slide. The students’ reasoning level also influences their writing ability. Furthermore, there is an interaction between teaching media and reasoning level towards students’ ability in writing an English-language research proposal. The students’ with high reasoning level taught by using Blog have higher writing ability compared to those with high reasoning level taught by using Slide. Moreover, the students with low reasoning level taught by using Blog also have higher writing ability compared to those with low reasoning level taught by using Slide

    Quality of Life for Disabled Children: Parenting Patterns, Community Social Attitudes, and Social Service Role

    Phenomena about children with disabilities in Salatiga still show that there are some problems related to the quality aspect of their lives. This study aims to examine parenting patterns, social attitudes, and role of the Social Service in improving the quality of life for children with disabilities. This research is a mixed-methods research using congruent design. The research subjects consisted of 66 parents of children with disabilities selected using the purposive sampling technique and 87 residents of Salatiga City selected using cluster sampling technique. Data was collected through interviews, surveys, and documentation, then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that parents with disabled children have a democratic parenting style, the social attitude of Salatiga City residents is good, full of empathy, and full of support; however, the Social Service Office does not yet have programs directly intended for children with disabilities in Salatiga. Research novelty is reflected by the variables and research method, which are different from previous studies

    Pembelajaran Berbasis Permainan (GBL) telah diakui sebagai alat penting untuk memotivasi siswa agar terlibat dalam pembelajaran aktif dan konstruktif. Meskipun ada hubungan antara GBL dan hasil pembelajaran, bukti penelitian saat ini cenderung melemahkan hubungan antar konsep dan terlalu menyederhanakan pengalaman aliran dalam konteks GBL. Bukti penelitian saat ini memperkuat semakin meningkatnya hubungan antara konsep aliran dan pengalaman dalam konteks GBL. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pembelajaran berbasis permainan mengenai Teori Aliran yang digunakan guru dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di SMP Islam Al-Fath Plantungan. Metodologi kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penyelidikan ini. Dua orang guru dan 20 orang siswa yang dipilih oleh peneliti berperan sebagai informan penelitian. Metode wawancara dan observasi digunakan sebagai strategi pengumpulan data. Analisis data menggunakan teori Miles & Huberman, untuk keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran berbasis permainan mengenai Teori Aliran dapat memudahkan guru dalam menyampaikan informasi dan juga dapat memudahkan siswa dalam menerima informasi. Temuan penelitian ini mencakup penggunaan pembelajaran berbasis permainan oleh Guru seperti duolingo, quizziz, kahoot dan lain-lain untuk mengajar pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di kelas digital

    ABSTRACT Siti Khoiriyah. 2022. “The Implementation of English Assessment at the Eleventh Grade of Computer and Network Engineering Major of SMK N Bandar Pacitan”. Thesis. English Language Education. Cultures and Languages Faculty. This research is about the implementation of English assessment at the eleventh grade of Computer and Network Engineering major of SMK N Bandar Pacitan. The objectives of this research are to describe to how the implementation of English assessment at the eleventh grade of Computer and Network Engineering major of SMK N Bandar, and to describe the students’ perception of assessment implemented by the teacher in English lessons. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was eleventh grade English teacher and eleventh grade students of Computer and Network Engineering major that consist of 29 students. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, interview and documentation. The researcher chose five students to be interviewed. The data were analyzed by data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The researcher used methodological triangulation to validate the data. The result of the research showed that the English teacher assesses students based on 3 aspects. In affective assessment, the English teacher only implements classroom observation. In cognitive assessment, the English teachers implement written tests, oral tests, assignments and portfolios. And for psychomotor assessment, the English teacher only used practice assessment. Meanwhile, the students have positive and negative perceptions of the implementation of English assessment. The positive perception about the teacher has given assignments appropriate with the material being taught. The students also realize that teacher assessment is important for students because they can know their success and ability in English lessons. However, there is also negative perception such as there are students who don't like the final assessment conducted by the teacher because the students had difficulty remembering what material had been taught.
